About Us
Emerald Equipment Systems are distributors for the world leaders in the design and manufacture of dry screening, washing, crushing and recycling equipment for the quarry, mining, landfill and waste management industries, processing aggregate, coal, rubble, skip and municipal waste, compost and sand.
Emerald Screening and Crushing (ESC) was formed in 1992 by Michael Tormey and Rory O'Brien, business partners who sold Powerscreen machines in upstate New York. Originally, ESC catered to the upstate New York market. Their primary focus at that time was mobile screening plants, MK11s, Commanders and Chieftains. While they found that the dry screening market was limited, the company continued to grow year after year. In 1998 BL-Pegson, a subsidiary of Powerscreen PLC, introduced its line of crushers into the U.S. market. ESC capitalized on this opportunity, and over the next three years, sales increased three-fold. As a result, ESC added new facilities and by 2001 the company had grown to 20 employees.
As the market in upstate New YOrk continued to rely upon ESC for its products and services, ESC was looking for new markets for growth. ESC realized that recycling and aggregate business owners in the New Jersey market had huge growth potential for both screening and crushing applications. With that vision, over the next two or three years, Emerald Equipment established itself as one of the Garden Stat's leaders in mobile screening and crushing equipment.
By the year 2004, the company had doubled in size and had grown to 40 employees. It was during this time that Tormey contemplated the purchase of O'Brien's share in ESC. O'Brien had moved back to Ireland in 1999 and he was no longer actively involved in daily operations. Under a new ownership team lead by Michael Tormey, Tony Dardis and Thomas Jordan, Emerald Equipment Systems (EES), was formed through the merger of ESC and Aggregate Equipment Systems, a company that served the state of Pennsylvania. Adding to its coverage area in late January 2005, EES purchased Powerscreen New York, which brought the Long Island and lower New York state sales and service areas under the leadership of Emerald Equipment Systems. EES now serves four states - New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Vermont.
During 2005, the company moved into a new 120,000 square foot facility so they could continue their expansion and growth into new markets. A primary benefit of the new structure was that Emerald was able to make a significant capital investment in their parts department, enabling them to serve their growing number of customers quickly and more effectively. Today, they carry wear parts for all makes and model of crushing equipment.
Another new feature is their belting facility, which allows them to carry several lines of belting, including plain, Chevron and Rip Stop belting. Additionally, EES maintains a supply of rollers, bearings, screens and speed-harps. The new machine shop offers extensive customer service flexibility, providing services that include a cutting shop and a facility to manufacturer custom-designed conveyor systems, feed systems and mounting systems.
